11 2008 Premier League Summary
Congratulations
to the Davies team who are the champions for the third
year running. But they did not have it all their own
way for the second year running. Samter came a close
second with McMurray in third spot.
The results were:- Davies beat Buck 20-0, Samter beat
Edwards 20-0, Bannister beat Thackaberry 18-2, McMurray
beat King 13-7, and Merriott beat Willmott 11-9.
Of the 24 boards, 15 were bid and made in game; although
how one pair bid and made one game is difficult to
see; perhaps with some help from the gods.
Board
#8 was bid to 4S three times and made twice. It makes
by leading a D towards the QJ dropping the singleton
AD.
Board
#13 was bid to 3NT three times and made twice. Without
a S lead, the obvious H lead has to be ducked once
and defender has to find a AC lead to defeat the contract.
Board
#19 was bid and made in 4S three times due to the
fortunate lie of the cards.
Board
#24 was bid successfully three times to 3NT. It is
safe as the Diamonds break and the QJH is an entry
to dummy.
A
special word to the only pair who successfully bid
6S on board #11. It is fortunate the KQD lie well
- but fortune favours the brave.
I
hope you had an enjoyable season. There was some excellent
bridge played and it bodes well for the standard of
bridge in Wiltshire.
See
you all next season
